Advance Scientist - Process/ApplicationsSummary:
The Advance Scientist-Process/Applications position, located in Momentive’s Abingdon Laboratory in Oxfordshire, UK, is central to the creation and advancement of New Product Innovations (NPI’s) utilizing Momentive’s specialty silicone and emulsion technologies. As part of this role, you'll actively contribute to the design, development, and scale-up processes, collaborating across various business units. Responsibilities Include:
Develop a fundamental understanding of Momentive’s Manufacturing processes (i.e. Batch and Conti-Emulsion Technology) to support NPI, scale-up, and translation projects from lab to full-scale production.
Develop prototype processes/products as determined by business needs.
Design and carryout own experiments during product and process development to progress projects.
Identify and introduce new and alternatives to existing raw materials.
Acquire a fundamental understanding of all process technologies across the site and be in a position to offer production support and corrective action for problematic batches or process-related issues.
Possess a strong understanding of site production capabilities to optimize new product developments & scale-ups processes.
Investigate and “improve” existing products and processes.
Scale up products from the laboratory to pilot and full production scale.
Interact with colleagues to ensure projects progress efficiently.
Carry out production/scale-up trials in all business segments to drive projects to completion.
Review Production/Process metrics to monitor and maximize process efficiencies.
Review and actively work to reduce Rework and age stock inventories
Qualifications:
The following are required for the role
- BSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science/Polymer Science with at least 3 years of experience
- Demonstrated background Process Chemistry/ process optimisation.
- Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to contribute to new product development projects.
- Proficient in written and verbal communications to leadership, peers, direct reports, and external customers
Preferred:
- Post Graduate degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science
- (or 10 years’ experience with BSc)
- Hands on experience of process chemistry/process design and optimization.
- Track record of success in innovation and new process design
- Experience of product scale-up and fundamentals of process Technology.
- Familiarity with emulsion technology / processing.
- Experience working directly with R&D or Process Dev teams to progress NPI’s / New Products or Processes.
- Demonstration of scientific understanding and methodology of Design of Experiments
- Strong team ethics and appreciation of NPI project life cycles.
