As the Principal Network Engineer at Covius, you will be a critical part in the support of our network infrastructure. This position will leverage solid experience and best practices to provide technical expertise in ensuring the sustainability, reliability, and scalability of the environment and will share responsibly for its high-level design, configuration, optimization, and daily operation. The Principal Network Engineer will also provide training to other engineers on new and emerging technologies and industry standards as well as consult and collaborate cross-organizationally to support the delivery of end-to-end capabilities.
Essential Functions

Infrastructure Management - Maintain daily operational responsibility for the reliability of the Covius network ecosystem.

Performance Monitoring – Implement and continuously monitor and analyze network performance. Troubleshoot and resolve network issues promptly, as well as optimize network performance for maximum efficiency.

Documentation – Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.

Security – Implement and manage network security protocols and firewall rules to safeguard company data and resources while ensuring that the network infrastructure complies with industry regulations and standards.

Leadership – Mentor a team of network engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-performance network operations.

Strategy – Contribute to the planning of the overall organizational IT infrastructure strategy by actively engaging with all levels of technical leadership to support business initiatives.

Research and Innovation – Keep up to date on industry best practices and new technologies and evaluate with a forward-looking approach for design and implementation.

Vendor Management – Collaborate with the team to make hardware and software selection recommendations as required. Maintain accurate inventory and work with leadership to coordinate replacements.

Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology is preferred; the equivalent amount of relevant experience will be considered in lieu.

CCNP+ or related professional level certification preferred.
Experience
-
8+ years of experience planning, designing, implementing, and testing data communication networks both on-premise and in cloud – Azure (preferred)
-
4+ years experience in Routing, Switching, Firewall, Load balancing, and WiFi operations
-
4+ years scripting or coding experience with one or more languages related to Network Automation
-
Robust skillset with firewall management and optimization – Palo Alto (preferred)

Highly detail oriented, Expert level problem investigation and diagnostic skills

Experience spearheading engineering efforts or improvements across multiple teams

Manage and configure network monitoring platforms – New Relic (preferred)

Experience providing vision, direction, and expertise to leadership on implementing effective business solutions.

Experience eliminating repetitive manual processes.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to accurately convey messages and influence others in a positive manner.

Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills is essential.

Deep knowledge of networking hardware infrastructure and principles.

Solid knowledge of Linux and/or Python or other Network automation languages.

Ability to provide technical guidance in a collaborative manner.

Strong documentation abilities.

The ability to travel, on average, once a quarter and participate in the on-call schedule as needed.

Compensation: $114,400 to $143,00 a year, with a 15% AIP opportunity
Working Conditions
Work is performed in climate controlled indoor administrative office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, depending upon office or meeting location.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to remain stationary. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
