Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Environmental Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineering Candidate.
This role will be stationed at the TBMNC site, where the primary responsibility of the Environmental Operations group is to protect the environment, to ensure compliance with all air, water, and waste regulations, and to ensure conformance to Toyota Environmental policies and procedures. The role of this position is flexible and will support the site environmental program as needed with a focus on maintaining site compliance with TBMNC’s Air Permit, current and future regulatory requirements, coordinating site air emission control device stack testing, preparing monthly and annual air emission reports and maintain related compliance records. The position will be responsible for site refrigerant management, odor compliance/monitoring, and opacity compliance/monitoring. Also, the position will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of SARA Title I, II, and III reports. It will include oversite and continued implementation of TBMNC’s environmental audits program, as well as support needed to meet Toyota’s Challenge 2050 targets, make Toyota a global Environmental Leader, and improve TBMNC’s cost competitiveness.
What you’ll be doing
- Oversee and ensure compliance with all permits including air, waste, and water.
- Interpret and implement activities related to new regulations.
- Prepare permit applications and negotiate new permit conditions.
- Budget, specify, coordinate, and oversee capture and control device testing.
- Perform monthly calculations and prepare monthly and semi-annual compliance reports.
- Oversee program for conducting site opacity monitoring.
- Oversee program for conducting site and near-site odor monitoring.
- Oversee program for maintaining site compliance for refrigerant equipment including repair record management.
- Understand all environmental program requirements for assigned shops.
- Complete shop audits for compliance with air, water, waste regulations, and ISO compliance.
- Oversee programs to maintain compliance with TMC and TMNA internal requirements.
What you bring
- Bachelor of Science or higher educational level achieved, or equivalent work experience
- Experience with environmental regulations for air, water, and waste, including Title V, RCRA and KPDES
- Experience with environmental compliance in a manufacturing setting, including setting up processes to comply with regulations.
- Experience with air regulations and application in a manufacturing setting, including experience with emissions control systems.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and its application in manufacturing settings, including setting up processes to comply with standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Proficiency with Microsoft Access.
- Material evaluation experience, including experience with SDS information
- Ability to work weekends and Shutdowns, as necessary.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, if not less.
- This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that’s acceptable by company standards is required for this position for occasionally driving to shops and around the site.
Added bonus if you have
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Science.
- Experience in the automotive industry, vehicle production preferred.
- Knowledge of Toyota's internal and regulatory environmental requirements.
- Basic chemistry and physics knowledge.
- Experience coordinating projects with internal plant personnel, outside contractors and vendors.
- Experience preparing documents and visual presentations, presentation skills, and gaining approval of project proposals.
- Experience using PowerBi and/or database systems.
