LEAD STUDIES, CONCEPTS, DESIGNS, ANALYSES, DEVELOP

Duties

• Lead studies, concepts, designs, analyses, developments, testing, performance validation, and calibration of systems used for Earth Science, Planetary Science, Astrophysics, Heliophysics, and exploration initiatives.
• Strategize, plan, and implement the performance advancement of the Planetary Ice Plume Simulator (PIPS) which is an electrospray-kinetic ice accelerator used for Planetary Science research and instrumentation.
• Conceive, plan, and conduct work in unexplored areas to devise new scientific measurements, sample collection techniques, or new spacecraft capabilities that enable future science instruments and missions.
• Evaluate technical requirements and new technologies in electrospray systems, set priorities, recommend feasibility studies, and develop overall funding and partnership strategies and recommendations.
• Lead the formulation of advanced instrument measurement concepts and spacecraft systems by identifying engineering requirements, appropriate technologies, and associated risks.
• Lead major portions of technology development proposals that include IRADs and ROSES, and mission or instrument proposals in response to New Research Announcement, Announcements of Opportunity, Requests for Information, or other solicitations.
• Lead or make major contributions to new technology reports, potential patents, journal publications, and conference presentations.
• Lead a broad range of interdisciplinary development and design activities, making recommendations and implementing actions involving highly complex technical problems, including those that apply to unique state-of-the-art integrated systems.
• Serve as an expert consultant on broad projects and programs with national impact.
