SERVE AS AN ADVOCATE FOR THE SCIENTIFIC CONTENT OF

Duties

• Serve as an advocate for the scientific content of the various projects and research activities being conducted within the Ocean Ecology Laboratory in support of NASA GSFC’s Earth Science Division.
• Oversee and manage Lab operations including research and mission strategizing, supervision of staff, and budget.
• Conduct personnel management activities including workforce planning, performance planning and evaluation, hiring, recommending employee promotions/recognition, approving timecards and leave, and taking corrective actions as needed.
• Recommend strategic objectives for the organization in accordance with NASA programmatic goals.
• Initiate and cultivate collaborations between Ocean Ecology Lab members and personnel in other GSFC laboratories and external organizations.
• Serve as an internationally recognized expert, technical authority, and technical advisor/consultant on ocean biogeochemistry and its relationship with other Earth system processes, specifically through the application of remote-sensing data.
• Develop and maintain a research portfolio in one’s chosen area of oceanographic science, which may involve writing and submitting proposals for scientific investigations, hiring research associates, and collaborating with other scientists.
• Perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.
