Technology Department
The Technology team at Bridgewater engineers systems to understand the world. These systems synthesize and industrialize our global understanding into a hive mind of macroeconomic knowledge which enables us to educate and collaborate with the world’s most influential central banks and policy makers and carefully and strategically manage the world’s most important capital. Our technologists are engineering highly available, high performing and highly secure cloud platforms and infrastructure which support and scale our investing operations.
Research Tech
The goal of the Research department is to fundamentally understand how the global economy works. Embedded within the Research department is a uniquely talented technology team that builds the tools that allow our macro economists to conduct their research and understand the world’s economies at a level we believe no other firm is capable of. These tools tackle problems from data ingestion and storage, to data visualizations, to signal creation.
Position Responsibilities
With a fundamental approach to researching markets, and systematic approach to understanding and executing on that understanding, Bridgewater places an unparalleled emphasis on technology as the key component to this process. This team is on the front-line interacting directly with users (some of the brightest economic minds at Bridgewater) and building solutions to improve our investment platform and express our investment logic.
You will drive the following responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility is to deeply understand syntax of languages and build Bridgewater's own financial language to manipulate incoming data and express top secret investment logic.
- Working on a small team (<;10) of elite engineers with backgrounds from research-heavy environments such as Google and MIT.
- Developing extremely sophisticated tools in collaboration with our Research department
Preferred Requirements:
- Minimum 5-10 years professional software development experience in technically rigorous environments holding extremely high bars for their engineers.
- Deep expertise with compilers and parsers
- Background building programming languages and understanding syntax of languages
- Strong computer science fundamentals with experience working across the entire software stack.
- Experience with extremely complex systems and a fluency with contemporary programming languages, patterns, and architectures
- Programming experience with RUST, Scala or functional programming is a plus, but not required.
- A keen ability to interact with users to understand their needs, use cases, and pain points
Compensation Band:
The wage range for this role is, $300,000 - $500,000, inclusive of base salary and discretionary bonus. The expected base salary for this role is between 70% - 80% of this wage range.
Location Requirements
For most of our roles, Bridgewater offers remote work flexibility with most employees required to work on campus as their principal work location a minimum of two days per week with the option to work offsite on the other days. We are potentially able to offer personalized flexibility based on individual circumstances in this particular role.
