About the Research Department
Our mission is to understand how the world works — building and compounding our understanding of the timeless cause-and-effect relationships that move global economies and markets. With curiosity, cutting-edge technology, and deep sets of data, we build frameworks and analytical models that explain everything from long-term debt cycles to currency devaluations; and we use that compounded understanding to create the investment strategies that drive Bridgewater.
About Your Role
Our research associates are an integral part of our investment process. On a day-to-day basis they collaborate with our Investment Associates to build out new datasets and help create analytics that drive investment insights, develop new systematic trading strategies based on those investment insights, partner with our Investment Engineers to tackle data science and data engineering problems for use in our systematic processes, and independently operate the systems they build. Through this hybrid role they will gain exposure to the core components that make up the engine that drives the discovery of insights and translates those into actionable market views making it an exciting and flexible entry point for those with a variety of skills and interests within the systematic investing space. Given the flat structure of the team, Research Associates can get exposure to the investment thinking of some of the most senior equity investors at the firm and participate in market and portfolio discussions.

You will drive the following responsibilities:
As an Equity Research Associate on our team, you’ll spend your time
- Exploring new datasets that feed into our research and development agenda
- Assisting in the creation of analytics that drive investment insights
- Developing systematic trading & investment strategies based on those insights
- Driving data engineering projects for consumption in our systematic investment processes
- Building visualizations and diagnostics of our data universe to assist in monitoring equity fundamentals and market action
- Running and operating systems that you have engineered to trade markets
You will be a click for the role if you have:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in asset management, investment banking, independent or sell-side equity research, equity data, or data science; or in quantitative risk or equities trading
- Strong mathematical and statistical modeling skills (i.e. highly dimensional time-series and cross-sectional datasets)
- Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting, and valuation
- Scripting/Functional programming knowledge – primarily R or Python, Scala a plus
- A desire to join a growing team with the potential for growing impact across equity strategies
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Intellectual curiosity and detail-orientation
- The ability to be a flexible, resilient team player with a positive attitude

Physical Requirements
For most of our roles, Bridgewater offers remote flexibility, with most employees required to work from our Westport, CT office twice a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Compensation Band:
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $125,000-$225,000. The total compensation package includes variable compensation in the form of a discretionary target bonus.
