Job Summary:
The Welding Technical Trainer delivers cost effective training programs providing welding standards, API 1104 welding procedures, including general industry equipment and trouble shooting in the field of welding. This role also utilizes company Operation initiatives associated with the applicable technical functions of construction type activities conducted by NiSource approved contractors. The role provides oversight and instruction to field personnel conducting various tasks related to pipeline construction/maintenance type activities to ensure compliance. Position is 50% field evaluation, 50% in the welding training center.
This position will travel to various locations in the NiSource operating area.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads learning events and is responsible for delivering training initiatives.
- Assess, recommends and conducts effective training programs using internal and external sources to determine employee technical training needs
- Identifies, recommends and collaborates with engineering and construction to develop evaluation processes.
- Content expert who collaborates with the curriculum development team to build and update welding content.
- Designs methods to periodically test and evaluate technical employees to assess the qualifications of the employees in performing their duties.
- Evaluates and advises new technological training opportunities while coordinating their effective use by field area employees.
- Provide recommendations to construction leadership
- Collaborates with standards and compliance leaders, peers, and local operations to implement preventive strategies to eliminate repeat offenses.
- SME for Compliance, Managers, Directors and GM’s during investigations and responses to Commission/DOT on reportable incidents.
- Communicates and corrects on-site violations.
- Schedules contractor requests for qualification and requalification; participates in consultations with local leaders to determine developmental needs.
- Perform destructive testing in accordance with DOT, API 1104 and applicable industry standards.
- Verify welders hold the proper NGA and Columbia Operator Qualifications Conduct QA/QC audits on internal and external employees
Required for Position
- Knowledgeable of in field operations and state specific Policies and Procedures
- Experience delivering effective technical training and evaluation programs
- Demonstrated skills in organizing, scheduling and planning work for a group
- Minimum three years of experience in plant/construction type activities as it relates to natural gas distribution
- Experience in welding type activities
- Compliance with Gas Standards, as well as all other regulatory requirements; pertaining to field tasks being conducted
- Demonstrated safety excellence
- Ability to communicate with field employees
- Effective written and oral communications skills
- Experience in managing outside vendor relationships
- Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications for Position
- Fabrication and pipe fitting skills
- CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
