This position is open to all NiSource service territories (VA, PA, OH, MD, KY, and IN).
The Emergency Management Specialist ensures strong relationships are developed and maintained with key regulatory, emergency response and local and state governmental officials. This position drives the alignment of the plan with the business and communicates strategies to key stakeholders.
As a public utility, we are required to serve customers 24/7/365. To ensure we fulfil that obligation, the individual selected for this role may be required to work after normal business hours, on weekends or holidays to support emergency response.
Key Results

Ensuring all preparedness plans adhere to federal, state, and local regulations

Assisting with the training throughout the organization for emergency management protocols

After Action Reviews, documentation and reporting out lessons learned or key actions

Work Continuity Program Support through roster management and program maintenance
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
-
Deliver support for the execution of the plan during incidents
-
Support the technology strategy for rollout to operational teams
-
Build and assure maintenance of relationship strategy and plan across our footprint (media, fire, police, elected officials)

Collect and track EP&R information for filing plans with regulatory bodies annually

Track continuous improvements to the plan and processes that are activated during an incident and collaborate with key stakeholders on such improvements to meet API RP1173 requirements

Conduct After Action Reviews (AAR) with key stakeholders after training, emergencies and all ICS activation activities

Responsibility for the tracking and updating of employees assigned ICS and work continuity role

Documents internal and external lessons learned across the organization

Record Retention of all Incident Related documentation

Contribute to the annual publishing and distribution of the emergency preparedness and response plan

Participates and develops all ICS related training activities

Maintains work continuity data base

Leads work continuity activities across NiSource
Required Qualifications for Position
-
College degree or equivalent work experience
-
Certified in FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 300 or must obtain within 12 months of being named to the position

Continued focus on education in emergency management

Leading groups through projects

Collaboration across departments and states

High level of organizational ability to manage data and people in an emergency setting

Comprehensive knowledge of NiSource gas utility and field operations

Knowledge and understanding of API RP 1173

Ability to facilitate tables and group consensus

Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally

Ability to drive and monitor continuous improvement through process improvements

Proactive in collaborating and leveraging interpersonal skills.

Strong communication skills verbal, written and oral

Ability to prepare and present presentations at various levels throughout the organization
Preferred Qualifications for Position

Emergency Management/Homeland Security Degree
-
Past experience in utility incidents, first responders, or Incident Command Systems, or gas experience
