Duties

  • Provide technical leadership to pressure safety team members and owner/operator organizations by leveraging engineering expertise in the design, construction, operation, maintenance, or repair of pressure vessels or pressure piping systems.
  • Assess pressure system designs and installations by reviewing drawings, specifications, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of stress, and other applicable documentation provided by contractors and coworkers, as well as through direct in-field observation.
  • Ensure the fitness for service and safety and reliability of pressure systems is adequately documented through application of national consensus codes such as API-579.
  • Provide technical authority and leadership for pressure system projects or program initiatives for resolving problems, developing process improvement strategies, and specifying or refining inspection and engineering assessment techniques.
  • Serve as the alternate Ames ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code Owner’s Inspector and government-equivalent Authority Having Jurisdiction as required by the applicable building code for pressure system projects in NASA construction permit reviews.
  • Write, review and approve design and procurement specifications for inspection and fabrication projects and component acquisitions ensuring the accuracy and completeness of technical details, regulatory and Agency compliance, and welding requirements
  • Write, review and provide technical support of requests for waivers by owner / operator organizations based on the technical merits of the request and relevant hazard considerations.
  • Performing static and dynamic piping stress analysis including seismic analysis of pressure systems using industry standard software.
  • Maintain knowledge for the following standards: OSHA 29 CFR 1910; DOT 49 CFR 100-180; ASME BPVC V, VIII, IX and XIII as well as B31.1., .3, .9; NB-23; API-579 / ASME FFS-1 including Part 9; and fabrication, welding and inspection requirements.
