The Role
The Interior Design Manager will assist in the development of interior design concepts, space planning, design development, ensure all technical components of the Prototype design are met (NFPA 701, Wyzenbek durability, ASTM furniture standards, etc), assist with Furniture, Fixtures, & Equipment (FF&E) sourcing process to ensure the design is purchasable, ensure the design meets cost targets as defined by Prototype department, review manufacturer shop drawings, gather finishes and samples from manufacturers, review furniture pieces to ensure design compliance, track prototype development project schedule to hit major milestone deadlines, keep sample library clean and organized, assist with pilot projects, and review construction documentation for the WH&R hotel brands. The primary responsibility of the Interior Design Manager will be to support the Prototype Development & Design team.
The Interior Design Manager may also perform brand compliance reviews and work in close collaboration with the Brand Leaders on the implementation of new design concepts. They may assist in the maintenance of brand standards and provide revisions to FF+E packages for multiple hospitality brands as required to keep the product dynamic and marketable. They may be required to offer support to new construction projects as well as conversions and renovations of existing properties. As an integral member of a flexible team, they will be required to interface with hotel owners, franchisees, and vendors. They will be responsible for the management and execution of major brand initiatives to include development of new FF&E packages. They will also assist the Sr. Director with hiring and managing external Interior Design firms when required.
What you'll do
- Management of major initiatives.
- Brand Compliance Reviews.
- FF&E Specification creation and management to include using SPEXX, reviewing shop drawings, and in-depth knowledge of current vendor capabilities.
- Accountable for annual and bi-annual publication of all Prototype documents (maintenance & upkeep). Must keep an organized list in department database throughout the year to track changes needed for each Brand prototype. Formal review with Sr. Director required prior to publication.
- Be the department technical expert for all FF&E.
- Update design, documents, and create presentation material in programs to include CAD, Photoshop, InDesign, and Bluebeam.

- Must be extremely organized to track long term and short-term projects and deliverables.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates a keen eye for detail and has deep technical knowledge of design performance standards for commercial hospitality spaces.
- Ability to develop space plans, elevations and graphic documentation based on programming interpretations.
- Research & develop FF+E packages for Brands and individual properties.
- Assist in creating concept presentations in PowerPoint and In Design, including research of imagery.
- Assist in Owner, Brand and SLT meetings and presentations.
- Manage external design companies ensuring scheduled deliverables are met.
- Assemble and layout Design Boards, digitally in In Design or Power Point and using physical material samples for presentation to Brand and SLT.
- Render drawings using Adobe Photoshop and Revit.
- Coordinate custom furniture designs with manufacturers including spec writing and shop drawing review.
- Develop space plans for both Guestrooms and Public Areas in AutoCAD. Hand-sketching a plus.
- Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects under pressure.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with vendors and research new vendors and materials.
- Confident public speaker.
Required Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design from a FIDER or CIDA accredited program or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' work experience in hospitality design with a leading hospitality design firms.
- Experienced in working with and knowledgeable of multiple hotel brands’ standards in multiple market tiers.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience preparing concept and schematic presentations.
- Experience preparing presentation design boards.
- Experience writing FF&E specifications.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in AutoCAD 2007 (or higher), Photoshop, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, InDesign, Excel, and SPEXX.
- Continued education classes (four to six per year) to keep up with the latest industry technical knowledge will be required for this role.
