Job Description:

The Senior Manager Department Planning invests in the future of Southwest by maximizing the productivity of the AI and Data Transformation Department by creating and executing long-term strategies that manage the operations and processes of the Department. This role serves as a strategic partner to Department Leadership to influence alignment to department objectives, collaborate with Leaders in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans, and set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity. The Senior Manager Department Planning is an innovative problem-solver, who is excited about the opportunity to drive the future of Southwest Airlines.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

- Guide and lead team members using SWA talent management practices to coach, develop, and engage employees
- Adhere to Company values and competencies to foster a culture of inclusion, recognition, and support of a safe work environment
- Invest in leadership and self-growth through participating in continuous learning and development
- Create long-term strategies to optimize the Department’s strategic initiatives, ensure alignment to Company-level objectives, and lead efforts to establish long-term and near-term plans as part of a roadmap necessary to meet the vision
- Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators of day-to-day operational performance of the department aligned to the delivery of high-quality, high-value, and cost-effective solutions with visibility into the goals, progress, and obstacles of key initiatives
- Lead initiatives for content creation that socializes, supports and advances AI&DT’s narrative, including various messaging documents, blog posts, leadership presentation and speaking materials, training materials, white papers, internal web content, pitches, statements, talking points, and other materials
- Lead all Department Communities of Practice initiatives by providing strategic design of a comprehensive communication strategies for community engagement and managing enterprise collaboration that drives knowledge sharing and best practices
- Manage Department financial and budgetary plans through vendor management and performing Department budget reviews and vendor evaluations, and report cost plans and Department financial forecasts to Executive Leadership
- Manage Department talent by overseeing recruitment, career development plans, and training programs to enhance skills and retention
- Implement employee satisfaction measures through surveys and action plans to improve overall morale and engagement
- Provide industry insights to leadership, translating trends into actionable objectives and plans to increase Department efficiency and customer satisfaction

- Ability to create and implement operational processes that promote standardization and efficiency, while also streamlining and implementing structures and roles to boost speed and efficiency and support rapidly shifting business demands

- Skilled with strong working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics to drive operational excellence
- Skilled in developing strong working relationships across all levels of the Company including Employees, Customers, Leadership, and Executives, and communicate effectively to that network in a clear and concise way
- Advanced knowledge of automation, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization product development methodologies, platforms, and tools
- Ability to identify and articulate important trends and opportunities for the enterprise to be addressed by artificial intelligence
- Skilled in demonstrating self-confidence and emotional intelligence in crucial conversations that result in positive action or change
- Advanced knowledge of situational and strengths-based leadership to provide continuous coaching to unveil areas of opportunity for an employee in order improve team performance and hold team accountable
- Ability to create an inclusive team environment that encourages dialogue and empowers your team to sharing varying perspectives to drive overall team trust
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
- Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:

- Building and growing a new capability including driving and managing change

Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $151,400 per year to $168,200 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
