The Legal Associate will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel and the Counsel responsible for all private transactional work related to Viking Global Opportunities (VGO), a $12 billion fund complex focused on private equity investments launched in January 2015, and Viking Structured Capital (VSC), a $770 million fund focused on credit and structured capital investments launched in 2023, and a wide range of related legal and compliance matters.
Responsibilities include:
- Negotiating and executing private equity transactions (primarily minority investments but may periodically include control transactions), PIPEs, venture investments, and credit and structured capital investments, working closely with investment teams and outside counsel;
- Reviewing and processing matters related to portfolio companies during the investment life-cycle such as shareholder or lender consents, waivers, requests for information, board materials and exit transactions executed via private sales or public listings with public-market sell-downs;
- Assisting the Firm in applying its allocation policies, including identifying and managing potential conflicts of interest, and advising the Conflicts Committee regarding same;
- Optimizing deal execution through process, technology and workflow improvements; and
- Assisting and coordinating with other departments within the Firm on any matters related to private investments.
Additional responsibilities may also include, but are not limited to, general legal matters such as consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other miscellaneous matters.
There are seven attorneys on the Legal and Compliance team, three compliance officers/specialists, and two compliance analysts, as well as two administrative assistants. This role will require partnership and collaboration with the team, as well as other functions internally throughout the organization, in particular the private investment teams. This role will be based primarily out of the NY office, but may require travel to the Stamford, CT office or other Viking office locations as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate possesses the following:
- A JD and outstanding record of achievement from a highly regarded law school
- Membership in the New York bar in good standing
- 4+ years of work experience at a top-tier corporate law firm
- Extensive transactional experience
- Familiarity with both private equity and structured capital investing is a plus

The base salary range for this position in New York City is $225,000 to $300,000. In addition to base salary, Viking employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, 100% coverage of medical and dental premiums, and paid lunches.
