Supervisory Research Space Scientist, AST, Planetary Studies (Direct Hire)

Duties

• Serve as the Lab Chief for the Planetary Systems Laboratory and manage all aspects of the laboratory to align with strategic capabilities, opportunities, and promising emerging directions.
• Serve as supervisor for all civil servant scientists in the Planetary Systems Laboratory, including full performance management, planning, assessment, and communication of feedback.
• Work closely with Solar System Exploration Division leadership to effectively manage resources to deliver on scientific commitments.
• Provide strategic leadership for the Planetary Systems Laboratory to position Laboratory scientists to provide contributions to agency goals and objectives.
• Provide mentoring and career development to team members across the Planetary Systems Laboratory and across career stages.
• Conduct scientific research to investigate planetary processes in and beyond our Solar System.
• Perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.
