This position is responsible for the daily payroll activities for a large and geographically dispersed population. This role is responsible for several key functions: serving as backup to the Payroll Manager and primary point of contact in his/her absence, training and providing guidance and oversight to the Payroll Administrator; performing the calculation of all wages and deductions to ensure compliance with federal and state laws; ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing; and maintaining policies and procedures for the payroll function.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process full cycle bi-weekly payroll in partnership with other Payroll team members. Team provides support of a multi-legal entity and multi-state environment for exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Prepares, reviews and processes payroll data, including but not limited to, one-time payments, retroactive payments, rate changes, terminations, new hires, LOA, garnishments, tax changes, and direct deposits.
- Performs audit reviews of payroll data (includes loading, balancing, and auditing timekeeping data) and coordinates with People Team and other partners on various changes needed for final calculation of payroll.
- Assist with cross training of payroll team members.
- Identify and assist in implementation of appropriate ongoing business process efficiencies to improve payroll operations.
- Provide exceptional customer service when receiving and responding to pay related inquiries using discretion & effective oral and written communication with associates and outside agencies.
- Ensures payroll is processed in accordance with tax laws, wage and hour regulations and ACS internal policies.
- Updates and maintains data in the Workday.
- Completes year-end payroll activities, including balancing and distribution of annual reports and W2’s.
- Works with the Payroll Administrator to resolve payroll-related issues, such as overpayments and benefit deductions from employees on leave of absence.
- Works with general ledger accounting team to ensure proper reconciliation of payroll accounts, including follow-up and resolution of outstanding checks and other reconciling items..

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

Required:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a multi-state payroll
- 3-5 years working on Workday. Understanding of payroll to include gross to net pay calculations (regular pay, overtime pay, tax withholdings, pre and post- tax deductions, etc.).
- Working knowledge of federal & state payroll laws.
- Good math/accounting aptitude
Preferred: CPP designation and accounting experience.
Educational Requirements:
Required: High school education or equivalent.
Preferred: BS degree in business from an accredited institution of higher learning.
SKILLS:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
Ability to independently analyze and research issues and provide resolution.
Self-directed, organized and able to meet strict deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.

Work is normally performed in a typical office work environment.

The starting rate is $61,500 to $70,000 per year. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
