Summary

This role will measure and monitor environmental and engineering parameters, as well assist in regulation review and research, and reclamation implementation.

This Environmental Technician facilitates environmental compliance with an emphasis on the Sump and Pad Program.  This person spends approximately 50% of their workweek in the field performing regulatory inspections and interacting with employees.  The successful candidate for this position will be mechanically inclined and have ability/skills to troubleshoot equipment in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Sump & Pad inspections (quarterly/monthly/weekly).
• Work with the Environmental Project Manager to ensure all required records are completed, distributed, and well organized. 
• Maintain the risk-based priority matrix of repairs. Present this matrix quarterly to the Sump and Pad Committee to maximize the effectiveness of the program and minimize groundwater contamination.
• Work with the maintenance area manager to coordinate repairs, improve the type of repairs, and minimize cost. This may include management of minor repairs (i.e., seam repairs).
• Work with the different production areas to minimize damage to the sumps and pads. This may include conducting training on proper sump and pad cleaning and maintenance.
• Work with the environmental team to help ensure compliance with both the groundwater consent order and Bevill hazardous waste consent order as they pertain to the Sump and Pad Program.

Secondary duties include:

• Complete inspections at SPCC, SAA, and 90 Day Building as needed.   
• Cross-train in other environmental areas including Land APP (flow meter readings, isolation and seasonal draining, and sampling); air compliance (Method 9 readings, fluoride in forage sampling, operator logbooks, SSM reporting, etc); and waste disposal (preparing waste for shipment and inspecting satellite accumulation areas).

Typical Education

• High school diploma or GED required; college experience preferred

Relevant Experience

• Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and work autonomously in the field.
• Environmental sampling experience preferred.
• Must possess good interpersonal skills for verbal and written communication.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency preferred.
• Working knowledge and proficiency with current technology and electronic devices.
• Must demonstrate mechanical ability.
