Occupational Summary
Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on systems, including plumbing, electrical, heating, refrigeration, general A/C, carpentry, masonry, painting, and glass.
Work Performed
- Clean mechanical rooms and pick up and deliver parts.
- Assist other mechanics as required or directed.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Perform basic calculations and conversions.
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks assigned by a higher-level mechanic or supervisor.
- Use hand and power tools associated with the trade.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, painting, and glass.
- Complete paperwork such as work orders, inventory, and preventive maintenance forms.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot buildings and components.
- Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures and components, including faucets, water coolers, urinals, commodes, and automatic flush valves.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and repair of window appliances.
- Maintain and repair electrical components, including receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures, and ballasts.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of door closures, locks, panic bars, and piano hinges.
- Maintain and repair various woods, materials, fasteners, and adhesives.
- Maintain and repair windows, skylights, exterior doors, weather-stripping, and locksets.
- Use electrical test equipment to maintain electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot and maintain fuses and circuit breakers.
- Maintain and repair various types of lamps and lighting fixtures.
- Select and use proper lubrication for equipment maintenance.
- Mix and apply mortar as needed.
- Apply paints and coatings using brushing and rolling techniques.
- Maintain and repair plastic piping and fittings used in plumbing.
- Install and maintain various types of doors and hardware.
- Install and maintain various types of interior trim for windows, doors, floors, and ceilings.
- Identify and repair commercial, industrial, and residential wiring.
- Install and maintain reinforcement materials and correct common issues related to concrete.
- Maintain and repair incandescent, fluorescent, and HID lamps, including ballasts and components.
- Install and maintain grout and other types of reinforcement.
- Apply sealants and fillers.
- Identify and correct common painting issues.
- Analyze and troubleshoot maintenance and repair of copper piping and fittings.
- Maintain and repair various plumbing fixtures and faucets.

Education
Requires an educational background typically acquired through a high school education with coursework in skilled crafts, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
