Position Overview
This engineering position will provide design-focused support and technical issue resolution for our battery products that are entering or are already in production. As a member of the New Product Development organization, you will work in a lead role on the investigation and improvement of products with key cross functional teams to perform failure analysis, identify design improvements, create the design updates, test to requirements, and document and release to manufacturing. Implementation of design changes will follow our engineering change order (ECO) and change management (CRB/CCB) processes.
About the Role – You will:
- Serve as a design engineering representative for all battery products in production
- Lead investigations to identify and implement engineering solutions to design issues, utilizing Catia 3DExperience (3DX) to create/modify design data (3D and 2D)
- Responsible for the development of technical project plans and schedules covering engineering activities, meeting all design control and product development SOP requirements
- Create and support documentation and reporting activities, including (but not limited to) non-conformance reports (NCRs), supplier deviation requests (SDRs), and engineering change requests (ECRs)
- Write, submit and coordinate the approvals for engineering change orders (ECOs), while also ensuring the proper implementation of design changes in production
- Manage BOM generation/revisions for a high-mix variant product line
- Attend material review board (MRB) to provide guidance on disposition of materials
- Work with quality and manufacturing teams to support first-article inspections, line trials and production pilot builds
- Collaborate with the broader engineering team to provide DFA/DFM feedback and assist in the development of significant design specifications, FMEAs, DOEs, verification and validation protocols
- Work directly with component suppliers to troubleshoot issues, request samples, and understand cost and timing impacts of changes

- You will report to the Manager, Sustaining Engineering and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA
About You:

Your Experience Includes:
- BS degree in Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience
- 3+ years in the design and development of battery systems
- Working in a product development environment with an emphasis on failure analysis
- Proficient in 3D CAD design and 2D drafting (including GD&T) of mechanical components (CATIA experience is preferred)
- Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing methods and equipment
- Detail oriented, with an ability to become a SME in order to make informed decisions
- Hands on technical experience
- Exposure to mechanical and electrical measurement equipment (isolation testing, multi-meter, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, etc.)
- Methodical and diligent thinker, with a high attention for detail and a desire to work with a strong sense of quality and craft.
