Position Overview:
This engineering position, in the Systems & Test Engineering group, will support all aspects of the cell electrochemical testing at Proterra. The primary objective is to qualify, characterize, and provide learnings about the cells that we use on our products.
About the Role – You will:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of our cell cycling and characterization lab. Troubleshoot cell cycling lab issues as they arise.
- Propose, execute, and analyze cell level testing projects for the purposes of characterization and cycle life.
- Work with cell suppliers and the rest of the test organization to gather complete cell qualification results to facilitate cell selection.
- Plan and execute growth projects to increase cell lab test capabilities.
- Write procedures for routine cell lab tasks and train additional personnel to assist with cell lab operations.
- Analyze resulting data and maintain reports of on-going experiments.
- Develop and maintain empirical models of cell degradation. Continuously validate them with new data.
- Develop novel test projects to further validate degradation models.
- Propose, execute, and analyze pack and module level tests to better understand differences in cell behavior when in a pack environment.
- Analyze cell data from manufacturing lines to ensure lifetime and performance of incoming cells.

- This position will be part of the Battery Engineering team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations.
- You will report to the Cell Engineering Manager and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Greer, SC.

Your Experience Includes:
- 4+ years of work experience with hands-on testing of lithium-ion cells.
- BS/MS in a related field.
- Experience in writing code to analyze large data sets.
- Experience with requirement management (JAMA, Doors, etc).
- Familiarity with basic electrochemistry and lithium ion cell behavior.
Travel: 0 - 10%
Compensation: $140,000 - $155,000/yr
