JOB SUMMARY/BASIC FUNCTION:

The Online Course Technologist maintains fully online program master courses developed by program faculty and eCampus Center Course Design and Development teams to ensure they abide by university policies and federal guidelines. This position also consults with colleagues and online program partners about LMS function and structure, and program specifications, as well as performs maintenance updates to master courses, ensuring the course functions properly after the updates are made.

This position may have the opportunity to work remotely where all work is performed from an alternative work location either within or outside the state of Idaho.

The Boise State eCampus Center is dedicated to expanding online degrees and classes beyond the traditional boundaries to meet the academic needs of students anytime and anywhere. This position will contribute to maintaining the integrity of fully online high-enrollment program courses.

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

● Oversee the build and structure of online courses, ensuring all technologies function appropriately and work seamlessly together.
● Oversee student workers helping with revision and update projects.
● Provide usability, accessibility, and quality assurance testing to review the functionality of online course components.
● Provide expertise with LMS features, sharing and documenting best practice in building courses to leverage LMS and reporting features.
● Provide technical LMS administration and course support services for online program coordinators and faculty through phone calls, email, and personal contact.
● Provide consultations with faculty and eCampus staff related to online course and program maintenance best practice.
● Support the eCampus Center’s Faculty Development program through providing subject matter expertise, developing courses, and webinars, and facilitating faculty development opportunities.
● Provide reviews of existing online courses for accessibility and copyright compliance, as well as other university policies and standards.
● Meet with faculty and program coordinators/department chairs to ensure master courses are kept up to date, and help ensure program-level updates are made to master courses.
● Work with stakeholders to manage technical and logistical aspects of copying the online course sections of the master course.
● Provide eCampus staff technical support and training on features and functionality.
● Serve as technical liaison with OIT/LTS.
● Provide program and course-level context to eCampus stakeholders.
● Oversees course revisions and updates.
● Document internal maintenance processes and procedures.
● Analyze current processes and identify areas for improvement. Develops recommendations for improving the existing processes and work with others to implement changes.
● May perform other duties as needed.

● Solid LMS skills for setting up and building online courses.
● Experience with web conferencing: such as Zoom, Google Meet.

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

● At least 2 years of expert-level experience and knowledge of the Canvas learning management system.
● At least 1 year of experience with HTML coding and creating content using web-based authoring tools.
● At least 1 year of experience and familiarity with databases and project management software.
● At least 1 year of experience and familiarity with Content Management Systems and/or knowledge base applications.
