The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Payroll Specialist who possess strong customer service and problem-solving skills to administer payroll services and human resource(HR) administration in an outsourced environment. Responsible for the day-to-day activities for timekeeping, processing and correcting time records and submitting items for payment. Act as a liaison between the outside service provider and HR business partners across the company.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Manage the review of bi-weekly timecards.
Update employee records (new hires, transfers, etc.) in the HR management system in support of the timekeeping system, as required.
Manage the submission of one-time payments (commissions, bonus, relocation, etc.).
Provide support in providing reporting and other HR/payroll related tasks as required.
Remit bi-weekly payroll deductions such as charitable deductions, transportation passes, etc. to accounting for payment.
Submit voluntary deductions such as union deductions to pay each union for processing.
Process various forms, including but not limited to, manual check requests, stop payments, check reversals, etc., as necessary.
Resolve payroll and timekeeping issues and proactively handle work related issues.
Act as the escalation point for payroll issues from the outside service provider and internal stakeholders.
Work with outside service provider and internal stakeholders to ensure all payroll policies and payroll-related controls are being followed.
Assist in the processing of standard and ad-hoc reports containing HR and payroll related information in order to meet internal and external reporting requirements and operational reviews.
Assist payroll management with Federal, State, and Local payroll tax issues and the year-end process (review of W-2 forms prepared by outside service provider).
Communicate payroll issues to payroll management , and the outside service provider as required.
Monitor and respond to Payroll Support inquiries and give timely and accurate guidance to employees and managers.
Participate in audit or controls and compliance activities, as necessary.
Assist with the payroll activities for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures as required.
WHAT YOU NEED:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Specialized training/certification may be required
Generally, 2+ years of experience in area of responsibility
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Excellent organizational and customer consulting skills; able to interpret policies and procedures and work closely with HR business partners and outsourcing contacts to ensure those policies and/or procedures are carried out appropriately
Ability to resolve both technical and process-related questions
Ability to develop good relationships via phone as well as in person
Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Excel (must be able to do basic formulas and willing to learn additional, if needed) and the other Microsoft Office products
Outstanding customer service skills
