What role will you play in helping us write the next chapter?
Reporting to the CFO of SmartPak and partnering closely with the CRO (Chief Revenue Officer) and CMO (Chief Marketing Officer), you will be responsible for leading the financial planning and analysis function for the organization and act as a guardian of financial insights for the commercial business. You will perform this responsibility with a high degree of diplomacy and independence while ensuring seamless and proactive communication with the executive leadership team.
As a privately held and PE backed company with an aggressive growth agenda, SmartPak requires strong financial partnership, planning, and support across the business. You will play a key role in developing and implementing financial strategies to support company’s growth, marketing and profitability goals. Your work will provide critical financial trends and insights that directly impact the future direction of SmartPak’s growth in horse health and wellness categories.
Primary Accountabilities:
Orchestrating Financial Excellence: Serving as a business partner to the CRO and CMO, you are a key contact for financial inquiries and will play an instrumental role in forecasting revenue and product level profitability. You will work closely with the accounting team, ensuring that the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting & forecasting provide both short and long-term views of our business trajectory. This is a highly visible role that requires a high degree of cross-functional collaboration and use of judgement and knowledge of priorities and actions to alert CEO, CFO and ELT, on emerging trends.
Developing accurate and achievable financial forecasts and plans: Work in collaboration with the leadership teams of the CRO and CMO to forecast and improve financial results of the commercial teams. Provide guidance based on sound financial analysis and projections. Develop and refine analyses that measure the financial impact of trade and marketing spending and provide insights on gross profit performance. Work closely with business team to identify and quantify corrective actions as needed to ensure delivery of business and financial performance. As required, participate in high level meetings to capture key plans for future development.
Monthly operating reviews and leadership meetings – Monitor and report on key financial and operational metrics, highlighting trends and analyzing variances to budget and forecast. You will lead monthly meetings with key members of the commercial business, share insights on performance and develop detailed annual budgets and recurring forecasts with the team. You will support developing materials and preparing for monthly operating reviews, town halls and other executive leadership team meetings.
Shape the long-term strategic and financial planning - Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide insights to drive process improvements and efficiencies that inform the ELT for long range planning.
Proactive & Insightful Partnership - Oversee special projects and initiatives as necessary. Drive innovation in processes, systems, and technology to help the company scale in this next phase of growth.
Qualifications and other competencies:
Experience: Minimum 5-years’ experience in high-growth technology or consumer product company, preferably in a progressive divisional or corporate head of FP&A positions. A proven track record of success in a leadership capacity. Experience in a rapid, large-scale growth is preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
Professional maturity: Ability to display professional maturity and possess a broad understanding of the company's business, policies, and practices. Ability to uphold safety standards, while being an active participant in continuous process improvement on the job.
Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills: Exceptional analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Proven ability to plan, set targets, model, and forecast with accuracy, and to always know where the company is in relation to internal models/targets.
Attention to detail: Superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
