HUNTER DOUGLAS - PRODUCT ENGINEER
Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Division Inc.
Location: Broomfield Colorado
Time: 4 months ago
What you'll do
- Design resource - lead or support on major projects for the cost or quality improvement of current products. Lead team-based projects using a problem solving approach to collect data, identify and test root causes and determine and verify improvements. Leads/coordinates the design changes required to execute the improvement.
- Create and analyze mechanical components, mechanisms, and part assemblies. Projects may be associated with new product launches, sustaining efforts, or customer reported quality issues. Use parametric 3D CAD software NX, to refine designs and release drawings, as necessary.
- Establish and define design requirements, test acceptance criteria, test methods, and establish parameters to determine safety, durability, and feasibility. Oversee any component tooling buy-off and product testing. Functional collaboration between product and project management, purchasing, process engineering and management for product improvements
- Coordinate root cause analysis and manage communication of conclusions and recommended direction of short term and long term solutions. Orchestrates test product builds & training while working in conjunction with the fabrication team to assure design for manufacturability of process and components. Conducts audits, tests, inspections and data collection to validate the effectiveness of design changes.
- Manage the redesign and coordinate the launch of product quality improvements. Conducts design reviews, produces tolerance stack-up analysis, validates data with statistical analysis, runs FMEA assessment and establishes design robustness for product durability.
- Corrective Action of urgent and/or chronic design quality issues: Investigate and resolve quality issues with materials/fabrics/components. Investigate and resolve design quality issues causing Fabrication yield issues. Immediate reaction/support of shop-floor issues impacting line-down situations.
- New product launch execution: Input and coordination with new product teams, participate in Design Reviews. Assist to coordinate pilot builds/testing. Assist with production launch as needed.
- Cost reductions: Identify and manage cost reduction opportunities though design and/or materials changes. Work closely with plant operations, drive cost reductions in scrap and labor cost, through product design improvements.
- Uses primary design skills revolving around plastic injection molding along with aluminum and plastic extrusions and mechanical assemblies. Secondary skills involve die casting, metal stamping, and machined parts. Ability to conduct rapid prototyping to validate and adjust designs using such techniques as 3D printing.
- Coordinate root cause analysis and manage communication of conclusions and recommended direction of short term and long term solutions. Orchestrates test product builds & training while working in conjunction with the fabrication team to assure design for manufacturability of process and components.
- All other responsibilities as deemed necessary by management.
