GenEdit is an early-stage company committed to the discovery and development of innovative genetic medicines through a proprietary and novel delivery platform. With our team’s collective expertise, we are advancing novel therapies, ushering in a new era of genetic medicine which can edit out disease and rewrite patient health. We are seeking talented and motivated individuals to join our team and are expanding across all functions within the organization in the near future.
We are seeking a talented and motivated scientist and leader to join our team and drive the development of genetic medicines for immune-based diseases utilizing our hydrophilic nanoparticle (HNP) technology. This individual will report to the VP of Therapeutic Product & Process Development and will be responsible for planning and executing short and long-term R&D strategy. She/he will be a key contributor to project design, goal setting, method development, and HNP screening to identify lead therapeutic candidates that meet strict in vitro and in vivo target criteria for tissue and cell-specific delivery of nucleic acid payloads that achieve desired immune modulating activity. The ideal individual will have a strong background in cellular immunology, immune modulation and tolerance, vaccines, gene therapy, primary APC models, and rodent models of immune-based diseases. Individuals with industry experience leading projects and collaborations and a successful track record of mentoring scientists and associates are preferred. Position title will be commensurate with scope of responsibilities and years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
· Lab: Plan and execute complex In Vitro and In Vivo immunology studies including method development, independent data analysis, and technical problem solving. (50-75%)
· Leadership: Assist in goal setting and strategy, planning and resource management, mentorship (commensurate with experience), and study execution to ensure timely achievement of corporate milestones and goals. Function internally as a key opinion leader in matters related to immunology and tolerance.
· Supervisor: May manage a team or individuals depending on experience including: workflow organization, goal setting, assigning objectives, mentoring, performance evaluation, skills and career development.
· Collaboration and communication: Work cooperatively with peers and multidisciplinary teams, keep detailed and organized lab records, and present results at team, internal company, and external alliance meetings.
Education and Qualifications
· Ph.D or equivalent in Immunology or a related life science field.
· Five (5) years of biotech/pharma experience with in vitro primary human APC models and developing immunological endpoint assays in rodents is desired. Applicants with strong academic research in immune tolerance and autoimmune diseases will also be considered.
· Broad and deep knowledge related to primary immune cell culture and differentiation, immune cell phenotyping, and functional assays, DC and macrophage biology, and immune modulation. Knowledge of vaccine development and gene therapy/delivery a plus.
· Extensive technical expertise:
- Primary immune cell culture models of APC, DC, monocyte, macrophage, and T cells including in vitro and ex vivo functional assays.
- Comprehensive immune cell phenotyping by multicolor (12+) flow cytometry (Attune, CytoFlex), ICC (Cytation), cytokine (MSD), ELISA, ELISpot, and ICS.
- In vitro and In vivo, screening, microplate cell assays, protein expression, cytotoxicity, fluorescent cell and tissue imaging, luminescence, BLI (IVIS), quantitative microscopy and image analysis.
- Preferred experience with molecular biology techniques including characterization of nucleic acid and protein therapeutic payloads.
· Work authorization in the US is required.
Abilities and Attributes
· A highly professional, enthusiastic, and goal-focused scientist, leader, and team player.
· Intellectually agile, curious, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
