The Underwriting Services Specialist provides policy issuance support to the Underwriting department by utilizing the policy administration systems to execute policy transactions within prescribed quality standards and service level requirements. The Underwriting Services Specialist also performs complex transactions such as cancel/rewrites and loss sensitive transactions and serves as a subject matter expert on these types of transactions. The Underwriting Services Specialist tracks and reports production premium information to the senior management team, reviews and responds to Maine proof of coverage complaints and monitors and resolves transaction error reports. The Underwriting Services Specialist processes rate updates and other bulk transactions and assists with policy administration system maintenance, testing and defect resolution as assigned.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. **Reviews and enters required information into underwriting and policy administration systems to complete policy issuance, endorsements, cancellations and renewals within company and state standards and prescribed timeframes.
2. **Performs complex transactions such as cancel/rewrites and loss sensitive transactions.
3. **Supports the executive team by providing daily written premium production reports, month end reports, tracking of issued and non-issued polices and premium forecasts.
4. **Communicates with Underwriters, IT, compliance, regulatory bureaus and others to ensure complete and accurate issuance and reporting of policy and coverage transactions.
5. **Reviews and responds to Maine proof of coverage complaints and ensures timely resolution with NCCI and Maine Workers Compensation Board.
6. **Monitors transaction error reports and recognizes system defects, communicates these items to the Supervisor and/or Business Analyst and assists the team with corrections and resolution.
7. **Processes transactions from impacted policy lists, rate updates or other bulk transactions to ensure service level agreements and compliance requirements are met.
8. Creates manual quotes as needed for submissions with pending rate changes. 9. Serves as a primary contact for the dividend helpline. 10. Provides assistance with projects, testing and initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Two years of underwriting or insurance experience preferred.
2. Experience in AS400, DXC POINT IN J and Microsoft Dynamic CRM systems required.
3. Ability to work with a cross-functional team consisting of both peer and management level employees.
4. Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
5. Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills required.
6. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
7. Exhibits strong independent decision-making skills.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
9. Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Proficiency in remaining MS Office Suite products preferred.
Working Conditions
1. Normal office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise and temperature variations.
2. Willingness to travel among company sites as needed.
3. Will be required to stand and/or sit for extended periods.
4. Will be required to work with a Video Display Terminal.
5. May be required to do occasional reaching and bending.
6. May be required to occasionally exert physical effort (lifting/carrying) using appropriate equipment if needed.
