Our Audio technology team develops and integrates new audio features for Apple’s products. We are a team of diverse engineers coming together to create prototypes of innovative audio technologies and guiding their implementation into Apple’s products. We work openly and collaboratively throughout Apple’s deeply-connected engineering and product development teams. We are looking for an Acoustic ML Application Specialist help to take our products to the next level. Could this be you?
Description
The primary activity of the Acoustic ML Engineer is to develop novel technologies in audio perception and understanding. Activities will include (but not be limited to) audio data acquisition & preprocessing, as well as prototyping & evaluation of ML models for machine hearing applications. You will work with multi-functional teams to optimize and improve algorithms/model accuracy across various Apple hardware and software downstream tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Most of our engineers have advanced degrees in Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Acoustics, Signal Processing, Electronics or an equivalent field, but if you’ve followed a different path to expertise in acoustics or sound quality, we still want to hear from you
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Key Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Good understanding of audio and audio signals
- Proficiency in Python and PyTorch and/or other ML training frameworks
- Understanding of audio signal processing (EQ, Dynamic range compression)
- Experience working in at least one of the application areas of multi-channel audio enhancement, speech enhancement, or Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Experience with large-scale training on enterprise scale infrastructure
- Proficiency in modern AI/ML: self-supervised learning techniques, transformer models as applied to media signals, contrastive learning
- Experience shipping high-complexity, high-volume consumer electronics

Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $124,600 and $187,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
