Primary Duties
1. Ensures accurate determination of the chemical composition of natural gas samples.
2. Monitors for gas quality contract violations and reports results.
3. Evaluates and approves/rejects analyses results based on historical characteristics and patterns.
4. Closely monitors the operation of field on-line gas chromatographs to ensure proper calibration and accurate analysis of gas.
5. Collects data remotely from on-line field chromatographs verifying the accuracy of such data and electronically sending the data to gas measurement for import into PGAS (software used for gas measurements) for volume calculations.
6. Works closely with field in trouble-shooting, as technical support and for field repair of on-line instruments.
7. Provides Atmos Operations with prompt and accurate results of leak investigation and analysis, as well as determination of chemical composition of solids or liquids found in gas pipelines to preserve system integrity and reliability.
8. Manages a program for the periodic analysis of the glycol used in company dehydration facilities to aid in the efficient operation of the units.
9. Develops and improves lab processes and procedures for better efficiency, safety, timeliness and cost savings.
10. Maintains a program of preventative maintenance for laboratory instruments ? diagnoses equipment malfunctions and performs corrective maintenance as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Educational/Experience Level
Requires Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field and one year laboratory experience.
Communication Skills
Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information on a variety of subjects.
Numeric Skills
Requires the ability to apply research methods, and/or advanced statistical and/or accounting methods.
Work Conditions
Works in a laboratory environment and occasionally outdoors in performing field repairs of on-line instruments.
Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.
On call 24 hours a day for performing leak test analysis due to the safety issues and potential public impact should a gas leak be confirmed.
