Instrumentation & Data Acquisition Engineer

Responsibilities

• Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing Setup: Lead the planning, installation, and calibration of distributed fiber optic sensing systems tailored for EGS monitoring. Ensure accurate data collection for reservoir characterization and optimization.
• Point Sensor Integration: Integrate various point sensors (e.g., temperature, pressure) into the monitoring network to capture critical reservoir parameters. Ensure seamless integration with distributed sensing systems.
• Fusion Splicing: Fusion splice optical fibers to establish high-quality distributed fiber optic sensing acquisition. Conduct quality checks (OTDR) to maintain signal integrity.
• Network Configuration: Design and configure network architectures to facilitate data transmission from sensors to central servers. Implement security protocols and optimize network performance for real-time monitoring.
• Seismometer Deployment: Assist the deployment and configuration of seismometers to monitor seismic activity within geothermal reservoirs. Collaborate with geophysicists to optimize sensor placement and data collection strategies.
• Server Setup and Administration: Manage the setup, configuration, and maintenance of server systems dedicated to EGS data acquisition and analysis. Ensure data availability, integrity, and system reliability.
• Python Programming: Develop scripts and applications in Python for data analysis, processing, and visualization. Automate routine tasks and streamline data workflows to enhance efficiency.
• Cost-effective Solutions: Identify and implement cost-effective solutions to maximize the value of monitoring systems. Evaluate alternative technologies and procurement options to optimize project budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Geophysics, Computer Science, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in data acquisition engineering
• Proficiency in distributed fiber optic sensing equipment setup, point sensor integration, fusion splicing, network configuration, and server administration
• Strong programming skills in Python with experience in data analysis and visualization
• Deep understanding of network protocols and computer system administration
• Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to travel and work in remote field locations
• Preferred: Expertise in Geophysics, Seismology or Petroleum engineering
• Preferred: Expertise in field maintenance of seismological stations 

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Reno, NV, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at Fervo’s Houston, Golden, or Salt Lake City offices will be required. Some travel will be required.
