Clinical Laboratory Technician - Pathology and Immunology

Position Summary
The ideal candidate will perform laboratory testing using multiple clinical laboratory instruments and laboratory developed tests. Testing will support clinical and translational research for novel biomarker discovery and implementation of in vitro diagnostics spanning clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and molecular diagnostics. This position will perform testing on blood and occasionally body fluids.
Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs routine assays according to laboratory standard operating procedures, including instrument maintenance and minor troubleshooting on various newly developed instruments; may perform special assays with supervision by a senior medical technologist or supervisor.
- Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor of unusual situations and requests technical assistance.
- May assist with validation of new assays; compiles data for supervisory review; utilizes electronic database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
- Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation.
- Demonstrates a general understanding of assay methods and clinical relevance; participates in relevant continuing education classes and seminars.
- Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects including conducting independent research studies.
Working Conditions
- Requires the use of personal protective equipment and lab equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in physical life science and clinical laboratory experience.
- ASCP registry or equivalent.
- Demonstrates ability to perform tasks in an organized and systematic manner with great attention to detail.
- Self-starter who can initiate job duties and assignments promptly.
- Demonstrates the ability to multitask and adapt quickly to new instruments and protocols.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, management, and directors.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree (Medical Lab Technician or related scientific degree).
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
