General Summary
Essential Job Accountabilities
Plans new installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid Hazardous wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools.
Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads.
Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments.
State license required.
Performs additional duties as directed by electrical supervisor.
Education
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
Certification
Completion of training program. Must be licensed.

Appropriate training and experience required

Work easily and skillfully with hands
Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds
See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors
Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools
Bend, crouch, and work in small places
Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
