A Brief Summary of This Position:
As a member of the Global Engineered Manufacturing Solution team you will be essential in the design and fabrication of complex, proprietary manufacturing systems supporting operations around the world. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will collaborate closely with design engineers and project stakeholders to develop detailed drawings and plans for mechanical devices, equipment, components, and tooling. Using computer-aided design (CAD) software, they will produce technical drawings that adhere to industry standards and project specifications. This role demands proficiency in drafting, with a focus on enhancing methods, analyzing cost studies, designing plant layouts, and tooling, and understanding manufacturing and planning processes. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as the role involves frequent interaction with vendors and the presentation of projects and concepts to senior management and project stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
- This position reports to the Senior Director, Manufacturing Engineering Solutions and has no direct reports
- Domestic travel may be required up to 10%
- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings of mechanical components, devices, and equipment using CAD software.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to understand project requirements and specifications.
- Reviews and interprets project plans, specifications and customer requirements and designs the most efficient and economical structure to meet those requirements, while adhering to the applicable Valmont design standards and national design standards
- Interpret and translate rough sketches, drawings, and specifications into detailed and accurate technical drawings.
- Assist in the development and testing of prototypes and the production process.
- Manufacturing problem solving. Specific problems may relate to cost reductions, capacity, planning, safety, quality or manufacturability.
- Independently able to perform the analysis and design of standard products, with occasional assistance of senior level engineers
- Occasionally works with manufacturing personnel to ensure that any product designed can be manufactured efficiently
- Coordinates daily activities with team members to ensure the most efficient use of time, and flow of work activities through the work team.
- Stay updated with the latest CAD software and engineering principles to enhance job performance.
- Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job duties
- Follow company policies and procedures regarding quality, safety, and project management.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Associate Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or related field desired with a minimum of 1-3 years in an Engineering Technology or related position.
- Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt and professionally communicate with a variety of people
- The ability to solve complex problems with high attention to detail and work in a fast-paced environment subject to specific deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Demonstrated ability to keep a positive, professional attitude in a fast-paced environment subject to specific deadlines which must be met
- Must possess strong problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a number/math orientation
- Ability to work in, and be an integral part of a team environment
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- Technical skills in computer aided drafting and basic understanding of mathematics normally acquired through an Associate of Applied Science degree and/or related experience (includes Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry)
- General understanding of mechanical design concepts
- AutoCAD 3-D modeling experience is a plus
- History of problem solving in an environment involving welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, press working, machining, and ERW tube manufacturing, planning.
- Knowledge or understanding of computer programming
