How you’ll make an impact:
Works with members of the Music Programming team to create superior radio programs as needed. Supports creative processes, content development and production. Exercises both creative abilities and technical skills.
What you’ll do:
- Reports to Coordinator Manager for technical aspects of job and works with Music Programmers and Directors to understand programming philosophies for making creative programming decisions.
- Uses music scheduling and playback software to ensure that songs are properly rotated and sequenced to appeal to the target audience.
- Listens to music determining the appropriate song characteristics and enters information into music scheduling software; also maintains required BMI/ASCAP and RIAA data, in addition to generating reports as required.
- Uses judgment skills to edit audio content including voice breaks, artist interviews, song intro/fades and determines where to insert the correct digital markers that sound the most appealing based on music/content selection and channel genre.
- Creatively writes station sweepers, imaging, promos.
- Writes DJ liner copy and Music highlights for on-air and web.
- Write, obtain/record, schedule and archive Artist IDs and Interviews.
- Acts as liaison to music artists during celebrity visits and communicates with music labels, representing SiriusXM.
- Participates in weekly Music meetings; recommends music for airplay that will best meet the music tastes of target audience; monitors format charts, trade journals and music sales figures to be as knowledgeable as possible about assigned format(s).
- Compiles/tallies, analyzes and responds to listener E-quests (email requests) for on-air talent use or for Program Directors use to track requested titles for countdown shows, etc..
- Monitors listener calls, selecting the best calls based on target audience & positioning of the channel it will air on; presents the audio to Music Programmer.
- Interacts with on-air hosts ensuring schedules, liner copy and daily music logs are received and understood; coaches Hosts if needed.
- Research, edits and disseminates show prep materials and broadcast copy to on-air talent.
- Monitors assigned channel(s) for content, technical quality control and editing precision; makes recommendations for improvement to Music Programmer.
- Ensures live music broadcasts on assigned channels air smoothly; train employees in the art of board operation.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 6-12 months of music programming related experience at a satellite, traditional commercial, and/or college radio station.
- Strong interest in learning all aspects of music programming and a desire to grow into a Program Director position.
- Strong interest in music and pop culture.
- Good public speaking and presentation skills.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to project professionalism over the phone and in person.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
- Creative writing ability.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and task-switch, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $54,000 - $62,400 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply.
