- Installs, repairs and maintains mechanical room equipment, piping, fixtures and other system equipment and components in compliance with uniform plumbing codes (UPC) and mechanical codes, standards and regulations.
- Operates a variety of plumbing equipment used for locating and determining types of plumbing malfunctions.
- Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
- May perform hot work if qualified and trained with all necessary precautions in place.
- Assists in training and developing apprentices by providing on the job instruction to basic tasks.
- Plans what materials and tools needed to complete the job and performs duties as assigned by Lead Plumber and Supervisor.
- Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered and safe work environment and ensures shop equipment is in proper working conditions.
- Works with a commitment to safety and upholds the core values of Facilities Management at The University of Arizona.
- Prepares cost estimates for clients.
- Reads blueprints and follows state and local building codes.
- Installs pipes and fixtures.
- Inspects and tests installed pipe systems and pipelines.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning systems.
- Maintains and repairs plumbing systems.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of PRVs , Steam, Vacuum and Air.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University .
- Previous experience working as a Journeyman Plumber supporting a large facility (ie. School district, hospital, etc.).
- Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program.
