About the Opportunity
DataKind is looking for a driven and curious Program Research Intern who is excited to provide support in helping DataKind better understand the landscape of student success and learning management tools through research and cataloging findings, and draft a landscape analysis on the use of AI in this space. The intern will have the chance to engage the various research projects and will be concentrating on analyzing results and creating sound research-based documentation. This is an incredible opportunity for a motivated and skilled student to gain hands-on experience and make a positive impact on society through programs research.
- Research: As an intern you will work on research projects to deepen your understanding of the research process, including how to formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and analyze data. This will involve conducting literature reviews, and collecting and analyzing data.
- Communication: You will develop your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. This may involve practicing how to simplify technical jargon and using analogies or visual aids to help explain concepts.
- Writing: During the internship you will create written outputs and develop your writing skill. This will involve practicing how to write clearly and concisely and tailoring your writing to different audiences
- Collaboration: You will work on developing your interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and supervisors in the workplace. This may involve practicing active listening, receiving feedback and responding to it, and working with others to find solutions to problems.
No specific previous experience in these areas is necessary - we’ll teach you any context or process you need to know!
Application Requirements
- Must be able to dedicate 40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks from June to August (Summer ‘24 semester)
- This is an unpaid internship so only candidates who will receive funds/stipend either via a grant or any other funding source will be considered
- Applicable work authorization

- Highly organized and detail oriented with a commitment to checking work twice
- Strong time management skills with ability to organize and prioritize tasks
- Proficiency using GSuite tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
- Customer service orientation
- Ability to work effectively from home, including possession of a computer that can use DataKind’s systems (GSuite, Slack, Asana, Salesforce) and a way of joining video calls
- Ability to manage a schedule that mostly overlaps within 9AM-6PM EST
