RISE Overview
RISE is a new collaboration, founded by BSR’s HERproject, CARE, ILO-IFC Better Work, and Gap Inc’s P.A.C.E program, focused on accelerating and expanding gender equality and women’s empowerment across global supply chains, through the delivery of proven interventions and greater cross-sector collaboration. Its mission is to empower women workers, embed gender equality in business practice and catalyze systems change with an initial focus on the apparel, footwear and home sectors.
RISE will be hosted by BSR with a longer-term intention of becoming an independent not-for-profit entity.
Position Overview
The Associate is responsible for supporting RISE’s programming in South China, and in particular the successful delivery and coordination of capacity strengthening efforts in workplaces including conducting capacity strengthening activities. The Associate will be liaising with workers, point persons in factories, trainers and local brand representatives. The Associate will also be conducting research and analysis, creating written documents and presentations, and executing projects. The Associate will report into the Manager, China.
The role includes the following specific responsibilities. These may evolve as RISE is established:
- Program Implementation and Support: The Associate will be responsible for supporting implementation of program activities mainly in China, and working with our corporate, training, research and other partners in the region. The Associate will support the Manager, China with the coordination of capacity strengthening efforts across workplaces in China including in the development of work plans, schedules, and budgets for the delivery of projects as well as contributing to effective business development. The Associate will contribute to the content and design of working group meetings, training, and workshops, and ensure the accuracy of all materials. The Associate will contribute to quality assurance of all activities.
- Capacity Strengthening: A large proportion of the Associate’s time will be focused on preparing and delivering the RISE capacity strengthening activities with workers and managers in workplaces in China to the standard of RISE’s tools and approaches. The Associate may also contribute to building capacity of other trainers using e.g. Training-of-Trainers methodology. This includes contributing to the contextualization of capacity building materials and approaches so that it meets the specific needs and priorities of workers in China. The Associate will support global capacity strengthening efforts through sharing lessons learned. The Associate will be required to travel frequently, often on their own, to the project sites (such as garment factories) for meetings, supporting implementing partners, progress monitoring, quality checks and program launches.
- Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: Supporting monitoring and evaluation practices associated with the Program including writing project reports. Support capturing, analyzing and disseminating learning and developing case studies as associated with the program.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Support the RISE country representatives to cultivate, maintain and deepen relationships with key stakeholders, such as brands, suppliers and implementing partners. In addition, the associate will support engagement with multinational companies and global supply chain sustainability initiatives
- Communications and Events: The Associate will support planning and execution of local events as relevant. Further, the Associate will contribute to realizing other projects in the Program. The Associate will be encouraged to contribute to communications activities via blogs etc.
- Team: The Associate will support the China Manager as well as other Project Managers and Directors in the global team in advancing RISE’s mission. The Associate will work in close partnership with other associates, particularly in China, as part of dynamic, highly matrixed global team and will be required to work with colleagues and partners across several countries and time zones. This may include supporting ad hoc special projects and assignments as requested to help RISE accomplish its mission and goals.
This position is part-time, 3 days per week.
Compensation
At BSR we have implemented a transparent total compensation framework with an emphasis on internal equity. In order to maintain our equity, our hiring rate for this position is ¥ 138,466 ( based on part-time schedule)
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a relevant position.
- Strong training and facilitation skills.
- Exceptional research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
- High degree of fluency in English, with fluency in Cantonese is a plus.
- Self-motivated with a capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to undertake up to 30% business travel.
