We are looking for a bright and motivated student to assist our finance & accounting department this summer as an accounting intern. This individual will perform assignments under the direction and supervision of accounting supervisors and senior accounting staff, pursuant to department standards and procedures. A successful candidate will be self-motivated and eager to partner with Dowbuilt to create a mutually rewarding internship experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide a high level of customer service to owners, employees, vendors and subcontractors
- Develop and maintain a high level of trust with project managers, project engineers, owners & employees by timely responding to and investigating inquiries
- Work under pressure to meet schedules and tight deadlines
- Receive and provide constructive feedback in an objection fashion
- Ensure appropriate information is provided to a requesting party by gaining an understanding of the underlying need for the information and how it pertains to the requesting party
- Follow instructions carefully
- Maintain digital and physical financial records
- Respond quickly to requests to re-prioritize duties
- Uphold department standards of organization and accuracy; check all work for accuracy
- Carry out assigned tasks with precise attention to detail, even under pressure
- Retrieve accounting data and system reports, and assemble data to prepare for review
- Accurately enter financial transactions into accounting systems
- Follow instructions for posting financial data to appropriate accounts
- Give recommendations to the accounting cycle managers for correcting and modifying inaccurate records
- Anticipate needs of the financial department, identify potential problems before they arise
- Use best judgement when making decisions where alternatives are predetermined by established policies and procedures
- Interpret and apply instructions and guidelines to resolve discrepancies in work
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality of Company and client information
- Develop an understanding of the Company’s organizational structure and operating divisions
- Actively participate in and help develop procedures related to this position as the business changes
- Filing, mailing, and other duties upon request
- Duties and assignments: due to the cyclical nature of accounting cycles, work assignments will be based on department needs which may change regularly
Qualifications and Skills:
- Currently enrolled in an accounting degree program
- High level of proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Excellent organizational skills and precise attention to detail
- Data processing dexterity in working with multiple financial applications
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a knack for getting information across in a clear and succinct way
- Must be flexible and adaptable: be able to switch gears and balance multiple priorities effectively
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- Self-reliant and resourceful when problem solving
- Comprehension of basic accounting terminology
- Familiarity with web-based applications such as Asana, AirTable and Slack is helpful but not required
- Must be able to comply with Dowbuilt’s drug and alcohol policy
- US work authorization
